English Teachers Where we are
English Teachers are situated on the South West coast of England in South Devon, a popular holiday area for visitors from other parts of Britain and from other countries. This region has the mildest climate in England. Very cold weather is rare here, thanks to the warming influence of the Gulf Stream, so a visit in Winter is very pleasant ! The Summers are warm with plenty of sunshine. In South Devon you will find beautiful coastlines with beaches, countryside, villages, towns and cities. We also have our own National Park - Dartmoor, in the centre of Devon. You can enjoy a great variety of leisure activities. We have many restaurants, cafes, pubs, shops, nightclubs, theatres, museums, parks and sporting facilities.
South Devon is an ideal place for study, leisure and relaxation. Many students of English like to go to London, Oxford or Cambridge to study English. These cities are very expensive. London especially has too many distractions for the serious student ! It is far better to visit London on a separate occasion - maybe spend a few days there at the end of your course. South Devon has good road and rail connections with London and other parts of Britain. We are about 3hours by car from London (Heathrow) Airport, about 4 hours by train and about 5 hours by long-distance coach. We think our region is well worth the extra journey !
English Teachers can arrange your journey to South Devon if you wish. This can be rail or coach tickets, car hire or even private car transfer from Heathrow Airport. We recommend a morning flight so that you have plenty of time to travel to South Devon in the afternoon. For the same reason we recommend an afternoon or evening flight for your return home. Every year more and more students drive their own cars to South Devon. This is an excellent idea, especially if you come with friends or colleagues. The drive from Dover or Folkestone (Channel Tunnel Terminal) is about 5 hours. From Southampton or Portsmouth the drive is about 3 hours and from Plymouth about 1 hour. Please arrange your journey so that you arrive in South Devon in the afternoon if possible English Teachers are sure that you will love South Devon, just as all our past students have done. Our Teachers know the area very well, of course. In the afternoons your teacher will show you some of the local sights, depending on your personal preferences. Your host family may sometimes offer to show you places of interest. At the weekends and in the evening you will have plenty of free time for leisure, but if you come with friends we suggest you agree to speak only English !
